Our client is looking for a contract Technical Author to work 3 days per week, developing user documentation. It is a friendly software company, based on one of Cambridge’s business parks.

You’ll be developing documentation for a new data application it is developing, and updating documentation for their existing applications. You need to develop online Help that is consistent with Windows 8 applications, using FrameMaker and RoboHelp 10. Some of the existing content is in RoboHelp 5 format, which you will need to migrate to RoboHelp 10. There is also other documentation provided in PDF format, with a goal to migrate much of it to the Web in the future. The client is interested in a long term engagement, post the release of the new application.

The client uses an Agile development process, so you need to work on site and engage closely with the development team. They are adopting new development processes that place greater importance on the documentation process.

You need to have have the experience to identify the areas where the existing documentation can be improved and to take on the responsibility to manage the user documentation. If you can bring a fresh perspective to the documentation process, then that would be ideal.
