As the 2nd Edition of the Microsoft Manual of Style is no longer available to be downloaded free of charge, your choices now are to: (a) buy the 3rd edition or (b) use an alternative, free style guide. We've listed the style guides that are available free of charge below.
If any other free style guides become available (the IBM style guide was accessible for a while recently), then we'll include that information in our newsletter (see below).
BBC News style guide. The BBC guide is written mainly for broadcasters, but would be of use for journalistic copy.
NASA's Web site contains a good general guide to grammar, punctuation and capitalization that will be useful to anyone who believes good writing isn't rocket science. You can download this guide as an Acrobat file.
The Chicago Manual of Style is available on a free 30-day trial subscription.
