This software house places a lot of emphasis on great customer service, and it is looking to recruit a Technical Author to create and maintain the user guides & Help documentation for all of its accounting software products. You will be responsible for the planning, management, progress monitoring and delivery of all the user documentation required for each software development project.

This means: working closely with the project teams to ensure all the requirements and key milestones are communicated and understood; developing documentation standards; involvement with usability & requirement meetings.

You need to have:

  • Experience of documenting of large and complex software projects using RoboHelp.
  • Thorough knowledge of documentation methods, processes and best practices.
  • Excellent writing and page design skills, with the ability to take on the user perspective.
  • A commitment to quality, and a real interest in developing and moving forward documentation standards, templates, processes and procedures.

You also need to be self motivated with the ability to work both on your own and within a team. You also need to be able to be flexible and adaptable to change, when required.

#3895 Technical Author/Technical Illustrator with Authoring skills, nr. Gloucester To £35K

A client of ours has a vacancy for a Technical Author to join its documentation team. It's a role that would be ideal for a junior author wanting to develop their XML and single-sourcing skills or a more experienced author with those skills.

As part of the documentation team, you'll be producing manuals (in paper and online formats) and online training materials for their staff and their clients in the gas and oil sector. Although you'll be documenting hardware, this position may suit someone with experience of documenting software, as the client uses a modular XML based documentation methodology and the hardware can be controlled via software. You must have strong communication skills; be capable of planning your work and hitting deadlines. You also need to be able to take highly technical information and present to an audience with limited English language skills.

You'll need to have a degree and at relevant technical writing experience. The client is developing more graphical content, including 3D animations, so it would help if you had some experience of developing graphics or if you were a technical illustrator with authoring experience. It would also useful if you had some past experience of writing in a single-sourcing/XML environment.

Salary would depend on what you can bring to the role. This is a large multinational organisation that offers very generous benefits (bonus scheme (to 10%) pension, health cover, shares etc) in addition to the salary on offer.

#3952 e-learning Specialist (Aerospace), Lucerne, Central Switzerland

In this role, you'll be creating and maintaining technical e-learning training material. This also involves maintaining the company's and clients' Learning Management Systems and establishing procedures so the e-learning systems are up-to-date.

You need to have experience of Web-based systems that contain e-learning content, excellent English skills and ideally knowledge of the aviation industry. You also need to be able to work in Switzerland (i.e. an EU National).

In this role, you'll be creating and maintaining e-learning and training material for pilots and aircraft technicians. This involves all key aspects, including defining the requirements for each module, writing the storyboards, creating the courses and ensuring the courses are used successfully.

You need to have experience in a similar role, 2+ years experience in the aviation industry and excellent English skills. You also need to be able to work in Switzerland (i.e. an EU National).

Our client is looking for an experienced technical author to produce operation and procedural Data Modules and page blocks, as well as MIL-SPEC Specifications from engineering reports, drawings and manuals.

You'll be producing service bulletins, letters, field service instructions and other aircraft modification packages, as well as draft illustrations,schematic diagrams and illustration production packages. This will also involve organising and discussing maintenance procedures with the engineering departments.

You need to:

  • Have at least 5 years experience as a technical author writing aircraft mechanical technical documentation to ATA and S1000D specifications
  • Be able to produce electronic Technical Publications in SGML/XML, SGML
  • Be proficient in using MS Word and FrameMaker + SGML
  • Be experienced in the use of AECMA simplified English
  • Be an EU or Swiss National

A Basel-based software house is looking for an e-learning developer to join its team. You'll be writing a Web-based e-learning package for an aircraft related application, using Adobe Captivate. You need to be an experienced e-learning developer and a native English speaker (although some German language skills would help). Switzerland offers low income tax rates (typically 14%) and simple work permit arrangements for EU nationals.
