No Kangaroos in Austria – STC TransAlpine Conference roundup

The STC’s TransAlpine conference in Vienna was great fun. I managed to sit in on Tom Johnson’s morning seminar on WordPress before I took the afternoon session on developing your career as a technical writer. There was a great deal of discussion and agreement on the challenges for technical communicators, as well as the likely solutions.

The building itself was unusual. It had a number of architectural features, some of which made the building difficult to use. The sloping floor was cetainly a challenge.

Vienna has a great public transport system, which makes travelling around it a pleasure. During my walk around the city, I spotted this T shirt, which I really should have bought for our Australian partner, Tony Self:

Nice to see familiar pictures. That is the scene of the 2004 TAC conference. Fond memories. I wish I could have attended this one, too.

Ellis, we were honoured to have you speak at our conference and your experience and wisdom was what we needed to hear from. We are looking to grow our membership, so if you come into contact with any technical communicators in our part of Europe, please mention the STC TransAlpine Chapter to them. The benefits are boundless.

Thanks for everything.

Ellis,
It was great to have you at our conference. Your presentation was fantastic – you really addressed what our members were asking to learn. And you made it great fun! You’re a man of hidden talents – nobody knew you spoke German too! 😉
