AI can help technical writers draft, summarise, review, and restructure content. But there’s a bigger opportunity.

What if you could use AI to help manage the documentation project itself?

Our next Managing and mastering documentation projects with AI course takes place online on 7 and 8 September 2026.

The course is designed for people who manage documentation projects and want to move beyond occasional prompting towards more systematic, useful applications of AI.

## From individual prompts to repeatable processes

There’s a significant difference between asking an AI chatbot a question and building AI into the way a documentation team works.

For example, AI can potentially help you:

- assess whether a product change needs documenting
- identify which existing topics might be affected by a change
- assess whether there is enough source information for a writer to start work
- estimate and plan documentation work
- find gaps and inconsistencies in project information
- create repeatable tools for common documentation management tasks
- coordinate and support collaborative documentation workflows

The aim is to identify the parts of the process where AI can remove friction, provide useful analysis, and give people better information on which to base their decisions.

## Four ways to apply AI

One of the topics we explore is that there isn’t a single way to “use AI”.

Depending on your organisation, technical skills, and what you want to achieve, you might use:

- Chatbot agents
  - These are often the easiest place to start. You can create structured prompts and agents for recurring tasks without changing your existing systems.

- No-code AI applications
  - These can turn a useful prompt or process into something colleagues can use through a more structured interface.

- Repository-aware and command-line AI tools
  - For teams working close to software development, these can enable AI to work with source files, code, documentation repositories, and other project information.

- Workflow automations
  - These connect AI with other systems so that a process can run when something happens—for example, when a development ticket changes status or a pull request is created.

We look at the strengths and limitations of these approaches, and where each might make sense in a documentation environment.

## It’s a practical course

It combines discussion with practical exercises so you can experiment with different approaches and think about how they might apply to your own documentation projects.

Previous delegates have particularly valued that combination of discussion and practice, and the opportunity to build confidence using AI tools.

You’ll explore areas such as AI agents, AI applications, collaborative workflows, and ways to integrate AI into existing documentation processes and governance.

### The management questions matter as much as the technology

There are plenty of impressive AI demonstrations around. The harder questions come afterwards:

- Will this actually save time?
- Can we trust the output?
- What information should the AI have access to?
- Where does human review need to happen?
- Should we use a chatbot, build an app, or automate the whole workflow?
- How do we introduce this without creating yet another tool that nobody uses?
- How should AI fit with our existing documentation processes and governance?

The course is intended to give you a framework for answering them.

## Join us in September

Our next Managing and mastering documentation projects with AI course will be held online on:

**Monday 7 September 2026, 09:30-12:30 (London time)
 Tuesday 8 September 2026, 09:00-12:30 (London time)**

If you’re responsible for documentation projects and want to understand how AI can help you manage the work, rather than only generate more words, this course is for you.
