Cherryleaf UK Technical Writer/Author jobs indicator – April 2026 results and trend graphs

Over recent months, we’ve been using AI to conduct a monthly survey that tracks hiring demand for Technical Authors across the UK.

In this post, we provide:

  • The results for April 2026.
  • Graphs showing the trends since we began the indicator in September 2025.

Overall job volume for April 2026

Summing across the six job boards produces ≈1,271 Technical Writer roles and ≈3,616 Technical Author roles in the UK as of 19 April 2026. These figures yield a combined total of ≈4,887 vacancies, down slightly from ≈5,001 in March.

The market is cooling slightly after a strong Q1. Declines are broad-based across all platforms, suggesting seasonal stabilisation rather than sector-specific issues

These totals are approximate and probably include some cross‑posted jobs, but they give a good sense of the trend.

8 month trend graphs

We have created some graphs to look at the trends since we began the indicator in September 2025. The combined totals are dominated by Adzuna’s broad “technical author” category, which includes many engineering and defence documentation roles. For that reason, we have excluded Adzuna from these graphs.
