On the comparable sources, the September 2026 results looks very similar to August, with a slight softening in permanent/open vacancies.
September doesn’t show a major deterioration in demand for technical communicators. It’s another broadly stable/slightly down month, with permanent vacancies edging lower but the contract Technical Author indicator strengthening.
One interesting corroborating signal is the wider UK jobs market: Indeed data reported in August indicated that overall UK job postings were about 10% below January 2025 levels, while recent Adzuna data also pointed to weakness in parts of the labour market. (Fortune). This suggests, technical writing vacancies seem to be holding up better than the job market as a whole.

Indeed continues to show live UK Technical Writer/Author vacancies, but its search results aren’t exposing a sufficiently reliable headline count, so we haven’t added it to the total. (Indeed)
LinkedIn fell from 1,006 to 987, a decline of 1.9%, while Reed fell from 228 to 225, or 1.3%. At the same time, the longer-term contract indicator increased from 101 to 112, or about 10.9%.
Overall estimates
We estimate there are currently around 4,300 Technical Writer, Technical Author, and closely related vacancies in the UK. This compares with approximately 4,400 vacancies in August 2026. That gives us ~2% month-on-month decline for the trend series.
The estimate is deliberately a range. The numbers include substantial cross-posting between independent boards, and this month Totaljobs and Indeed aren’t providing sufficiently reliable headline counts.
