How to register as a candidate at Cherryleaf

Looking for a job or contract in technical communication?

Our specialist recruitment service offers permanent and contract positions in technical writing, training, API documentation, copywriting, developing training courseware and publishing content online.

We focus on job roles such as: Technical Authors, Technical Writers, Online Help developers, Web content developers, Training Courseware Developers, Content Curators, Content Strategists, Content Wranglers, Editors, Publications Managers and Copywriters.

Contract positions are normally for an agreed period of time, rather than individual writing tasks or small, one-off projects.

Most of the opportunities we handle require candidates to be based in the UK, although we occasionally recruit for positions in other countries.

This page tells you how you can:

  • Apply for a specific vacancy
  • Register as a candidate
  • Keep up to date with the latest news and salaries

Please note: We do not offer trial tasks or small projects as part of our candidate registration process. As part of their recruitment process, a client might ask short-listed candidates to complete a short writing exercise, such as rewriting a page of documentation or creating a sample help topic. It’s not common practice, but it sometimes happens. This is intended solely to help the client assess the candidate’s technical writing skills and suitability for the role. In those situations, the exercises are small, self-contained assessments, not unpaid work on live documentation or commercial projects. They are not commissioned freelance assignments.

If you are looking for a permanent job or a contract position, you are welcome to register your details with us so we can consider you for suitable vacancies.

Advice on writing your CV

We will not change your CV, other than to remove contact details and add our logo, before sending it out to prospective employers. Your CV will tell them a lot about how good a writer you are. This means that your CV should be as good as you can make it.

Your CV should include at least: Personal Details, Nationality, Education and Training, Employment History, Skills and Leisure Interests.

It should also provide information on your technical writing experience.

Start the filename of your CV with your name.

Your CV is your first chance to demonstrate your writing skills. You must be clear and concise. Don’t forget to check your CV thoroughly. Look out for any typographical, spelling and grammatical errors.

Limit your CV to two or three sides of A4 paper, if you can.

Writing your covering note

The covering email should contain information for Cherryleaf about your preferences, e.g. location and salary. We also need to know that, for contract work, you can prove your freelance status. We will not send your covering note to a prospective employer unless with your express permission.

Data privacy

If you do not consent to Cherryleaf storing your personal data, please do not submit your CV for any roles advertised on our website. We cannot process your application without receipt of consent to process and store your personal information.
