Ellis Pratt, Director at Cherryleaf, will be presenting at the TCUK25 conference on the topic of: “Automate All the Things? The Present and Future of Automation in Technical Writing“.
Many technical communicators already use automation, sometimes without even realizing it.
But what are we missing, and what comes next? And, importantly, why automate?
This session explores both the present and future of automation in technical communication. We’ll examine what writers and teams are automating today across different stages of the content lifecycle, such as writing, publishing, formatting, quality checks and internal collaboration.
We’ll highlight real-world tools that boost efficiency and consistency, including examples from our in-house experience and practices we’ve seen in other organisations.
We’ll also look at the future: we’ll look into where automation is heading, and where the gaps remain. We’ll dive into emerging technologies like Model Context Protocol (MCP), AI agents, API-based workflows, and and consider the ways they could help technical communicators. .
But automation isn’t without challenges. We’ll address the critical considerations: the need for human oversight, the impact on team roles and junior writers, cybersecurity concerns, and the long-term sustainability of automated systems.
This session blends hands-on guidance with big-picture insight. Attendees will leave with a clear view of what’s possible today, what’s coming next, and how to make smart, strategic decisions about automation in their own work and teams.
TCUK25 will take place from Monday 24th to Tuesday 25th November 2025 at the Radisson Blu hotel at East Midlands Airport.
We look forward to seeing you there.
