Cherryleaf has initiated a monthly survey that tracks hiring demand for Technical Authors across the UK. Here are the results for November 2025.
Employers in the UK continued to hire technical communicators in November. However, the strength of demand differed across job boards.
Overall job volumes
Totaljobs and Jobsite, two major general‑purpose job boards, each reported 265 and 244 open Technical Writer positions respectively in mid‑November, up from 233 and 214 roles in October. These boards also listed the same number of Technical Author vacancies (265 and 244)
Specialist and niche boards
CWJobs’ listings showed 127 technical‑writer roles – a decline from 144 jobs in October – and its technical‑author page now also lists 127 jobs (up sharply from only 10 author vacancies in October)
Glassdoor, which aggregates roles from multiple employers, listed 269 UK technical‑writer jobs, a marked increase from 182 jobs in October
Reed.co.uk reported 87 technical‑writer jobs, a modest rise from 81 in October
Adzuna saw the biggest surge: it advertised 514 technical‑writer jobs and 1,672 technical‑author jobs in November, compared with 88 and 1,390 respectively in October. Much of this increase was driven by remote or contract positions aggregated from international employers.
Contract market
ITJobsWatch’s contract‑market data shows a slight decline in the number of contract vacancies. Over the six months to 19 Nov 2025, there were 51 contract jobs requiring a Technical Writer (down from 49 in October). Rates remain similar to October’s values, suggesting contract rates have stabilised.

There seems to be a gradual recovery on major boards: Both Totaljobs and Jobsite saw a 14% month‑over‑month rise in vacancies for technical writers/authors, suggesting employers resumed hiring after a quieter October.
Adzuna’s counts surged dramatically. Its technical‑writer listings jumped from 88 to 514, while technical‑author jobs grew to 1,672 Adzuna aggregates listings from many sources (including remote and contract posts), so its numbers may capture international or freelance roles not reflected on other boards.
There’s a mixed picture on niche boards. CWJobs’ technical‑writer vacancies declined to 127, while its technical‑author page now lists 127 jobs instead of just 10. The change likely reflects a broadening of job categorisation rather than a genuine hiring surge on CWJobs.
Contract market softness: ITJobsWatch shows a slight decrease in contract opportunities.
Overall vacancy numbers in November exceeded October levels, indicating improving demand for technical communicators. However, the recovery is uneven
