Over recent months, we’ve been using AI to conduct a monthly survey that tracks hiring demand for Technical Authors across the UK.
This month, Stepstone counts have been deduplicated (only the larger Totaljobs figure is used) and cloud‑platforms that blocked access (such as Indeed) are noted separately.

Technical Writer jobs across the major boards above (excluding the approximate Indeed numbers) total ≈1 365 vacancies in June 2026.
This is down slightly from ≈1 693 in May 2026 (~2.6 % decline) due to a sharp drop on the Stepstone network and weaker hiring on Reed and Adzuna.
Technical Author jobs
Technical Author jobs total ≈3 137 across these boards (excluding Indeed), versus ≈3 392 in May (~3.6 % fall).
Declines on Stepstone and Adzuna more than offset small gains on Reed and CWJobs.
Combined
Combined (writer and author) vacancies stand at ≈4 502 (excluding Indeed). This is down from ≈5 085 in May (~3 % decrease).
Adzuna still dominates author vacancies, but its total is slightly lower than a month earlier.
About the data
These totals are approximate, but they give a good sense of the trend.
Deduplication: Because Totaljobs and Jobsite both belong to the Stepstone network and repost many of the same roles, only the higher of their counts (Totaljobs) was used; Jobsite lists ~184 writer and 183 author roles, but including both would double‑count those vacancies
