Delays in filling a Technical Author, UX Writer, or similar positions, can mean your project deadlines aren’t met, or the amount of unfinished work just grows and grows.
Fewer than two in every one thousand IT vacancies are for technical writing roles (source: ITJobswatch). This means the mainstream IT recruitment agencies often have little experience of filling these positions. Often, they can struggle to find suitable people from a limited pool of candidates.
Recruiting a technical writer is not like standard recruitment. Fewer writers, but many *many* different job titles. Recruiters often completely unfamiliar with tech writing. Tendency to auto-filter by keyword – which is a big problem. #writethedocs

Our contract and recruitment services
Hiring a freelance/contract technical communicator
Hiring a contract Technical Writer is a good choice for you if you want someone to be “up and running” as soon as possible, and your existing team doesn’t have the time or skills to create the content. The difference between this service and our projects service is that, in this case, we don’t manage the project for you. You and/or the contractor determine the plan of work.
You can have a contract technical communicator for a period that suits your needs: a month, three months, six months, or a year.
Recruiting a permanent technical communicator
This is a good choice for you if you have a long term need to create content for end users.
We only offer permanent recruitment services to existing customers, or in exceptional cases.
About the hiring and selection process
It’s straightforward and flexible. You get the skilled people you need for your projects:
- You send us details of your requirement.
- We talk to you about the type of contractor you’re looking for, daily rates, location, skills and experience. We can help you identify these, if you want.
- Then, we start searching our network, and speak to potential candidates.
We’ll assess their CVs to see if they suit your needs. - You receive CVs of the people whom you should consider.
- If you want to speak to any of the people we’ve submitted, we’ll arrange the date and time.
- You select the contractor you want to use.
- We send out the paperwork, start and end dates, and related tasks.
The contract will state the duration of the contract, the work, and the rate.
When the contractor is working for you:
- At the end of each month or week, you sign/agree the contractor’s timesheet.
This confirms the hours they worked. - A few days later, we’ll send you an invoice for that time.
About hiring permanent technical communicators
We charge a recruitment fee of 20% (of the base salary), when the person starts working for you.
We only offer permanent recruitment services to existing customers, or in exceptional cases.
